NAGPUR: Mystery shrouds the death of a senior judge and additional chief judicial magistrate, who was found dead at the railway crossing at Manjarkhed, near Chandur Railway station in Amravati district on Sunday evening.

His death has shocked the legal fraternity and the district administration.

According to sources, Anup Jawalkar, a senior judge and additional chief magistrate of Dwarva in the Yavatmal district, had come to Chandur in his four-wheeler on Sunday.

His body was found on the railway track.

Jawalkar, who was from neighbouring Wardha district, had been transferred to Dwarva from Yavatmal a few days ago.

But, he was not happy with the transfer.

His family lives in Yavatmal and he shifted base.

On Saturday, the judge went to Yavatmal to attend a wedding and stayed in his house.

He left the house at midnight, leaving behind his mobile phone, said the police.

“Jawalkar had been run over by a train and the severely injured body was unrecognisable,” he said.

Bobde added that they identified the judge on the basis of his identity card that was found at the spot.
