CM briefs Union minister about safety steps in city after strikes

MUMBAI: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis apprised Union home minister Rajnath Singh about the precautionary measures taken by the Maharashtra government across the state after the surgical strike by Indian armed forces on Thursday.

Fadnavis has also reportedly informed BJP head Amit Shah, about the ongoing Maratha agitations in the state.

The CM, during his two-day visit to Delhi, met Singh and told him about the steps taken to safeguard various vital installations in Mumbai. He said that all agencies had been sensitised.according to the sources in the home department, the police force has been asked to be high alert. The Mumbai and Maharashtra police have been also directed to beef up security at critical places.

Fadnavis had said on Thursday that security agencies are automatically put on high alert after any activity on the border or a terror attack in any part of the country.

During the meeting, the CM also thanked the central government for the Rs1269-crore relief package for loss of crop in the state because of the drought, earlier this year.

Fadnavis also met Bharatiya Janata Party national president Amit Shah late on Thursday in Delhi and is believed to have briefed him on the ongoing rallies by the Maratha community with various demands in Maharashtra. The agitation has disturbed the party leadership as the angst among the Marathas is hitting the Fadnavis-led government the most. However, the CM’S Office has denied any such meeting or discussion on the protests.

Fadnavis met various other ministers including minister of environment and forest Anil Dave.

The CM said that the Union minister had assured to hold a joint meeting to expedite the environment clearance of coastal roads in Mumbai.

“We have also been assured of permission for the sewage treatment plant at Malad in a month,” he said.
