Congress threatens legal action against film deal

- HT Correspondent

Mumbai Congress, while terming the intervention by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in the ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ row illegal and unconstitutional, has threatened to go to court for details of the meeting held at CM’S residence.

City Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam trained guns again at Devendra Fadnavis claiming that he has belittled the sanctity of his office. He also asked in what capacity did Fadnavis make the “settlement”.

“By involving the extra constitutional entities like Raj Thackeray in talks to resolve the issue between the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and the film producers, CM has played a role of ‘broker’,” Nirupam said. “The Indian Army officials have turned down the offer of the donation of Rs 5 crore per film to the Army Welfare Fund calling it “extortion money”. This looks like a tight slap for the CM. He should either tender apology to the nation or his party should sack him,” he alleged.

Nirupam dared the MNS chief to go after industrialists who deal with Pakistanis while claiming that film producers were soft targets for the MNS. “Why are only film producers being targeted by the party which believes in hooliganism and why are other businesses being spared? Why not speak against the economic ties of the industrialists and exports they make to the neighbouring country? ” Nirupam asked.
