ONE OF THE BIKE-BORNE MEN PULLED AT THE VICTIM’S DUPATTA BUT IT GOT ENTANGLED AROUND HER NECK. SHE FELL BUT THE MEN DRAGGED HER FOR AT LEAST 50 METRES

BHABUA: A 15-year-old girl on way to write a school exam was killed when three motorcycleborne men chased her, pulled her dupatta, dragged her a distance and ran her over as she lay injured in a Bihar village on Tuesday.

A student of Class 10, Sudha Kumari was walking to school with three classmates when the men started following her on the bike, police said.

One of them pulled at her dupatta but it got entangled around her neck, virtually turning it into a noose that choked her. Kumari, a resident of Fakarabad in Bhabua district, fell but the men dragged her for at least 50 meters before letting go.

As she lay motionless, they reversed the bike and drove over her, killing the teenager, police said.

A case of molestation was registered against the men who abandoned the motorcycle and fled as villagers rushed to the spot hearing the cries of Kumari’s classmates.

Angry villagers kept the body on the main road and blocked traffic for some time, demanding the arrest of the men who are on the run.

Kumari’s brother lodged an FIR against one Krishna Kumar Gond and his two associates, who were not identified. Two police teams were looking for the men, assistant superintendent of police Jagunnath J Raddy said.

Crime against woman has been a concern in Bihar. Though the numbers showed a decline in 2015 compared to the previous year, they still accounted for 10% of such incidents nationwide.

On Monday, police recovered remains of a woman who they suspect is a government engineer who was tied to a chair and burnt to death at her rented office in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur.
