SLEEPING BOY, 4, PARENTS DOUSED WITH ACID AT MALAD HOME

MUMBAI: A 32-year-old man, his wife and their four-year-old son were attacked with acid at their home in Malad (East) early on Tuesday. The police have detained, on suspicion, the man’s employer — an imitation jewelry workshop owner — and a woman who works with him.

The police said the incident took place between 2.30am and 3am when Chandan Singh, his wife Chandani and son Aadarsh were asleep in their home at Iraniwadi in Squatter’s Colony The unidentifi­ed assailant man aged to open a window and let himself in before pouring acid on the sleeping family, injuring all three. The Dindoshi police have registered a case of attempted murder against unidentifi­ed accused. No official arrests have been made so far.

The police suspect that Singh was the target and that his wife and child were injured as they sleeping beside him. The three were taken to Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivl (West) where they are recuperat ing. The police said while Singh suffered the most serious burns the injuries to his wife and son were not life-threatenin­g.

Singh has worked at the imita tion jewellery workshop close to his home for the past 15 years. In his preliminar­y statement to the police, he said he had got into a fight with his employer late on Monday evening.

He told police he had a heat ed argument with his boss and said he would quit his job. He complained that his employer had been favouring another employee, a woman, over him and this was causing tension between the two.

The police also learnt that Singh and a few other employees used to take up freelancin­g work cleaning and polishing jewellery from outside at the workshop for supplement their incomes.
