RTO officials seize unregistered sports car
The flying squads of the motor vehicles department (MVD) officials on Monday evening seized an unregistered DC Avanti sports car at Mira Road for plying on the roads. The vehicle, priced at Rs35 lakh, has been parked at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Thane.
According to a source, the red sports car was seized near a hotel on the Mumbai-ahmedabad highway after its driver failed to produce any documents, including the vehicle’s registration certificate and insurance papers, before officials.
The car, which did not have a number plate, had clocked 16,619 kilometres.
Shyam Lohi, deputy regional transport officer of the RTO at Thane confirmed the development. A source said that the car was in possession of a woman from Mira Road, who claimed she had borrowed it from its owner who resides at Bhosari in Pune.
The car’s driver and owner have been to produce all the necessary documents of the car along with its tax payment receipt. They have been also asked to pro- duce the type approval certificate, which endorses a vehicle that complies with all the regulations and safety norms and is suitable for plying on Indian roads.
If they fail to produce necessary documents, the motor vehicles department will recover the tax and penalty from the vehicle’s owner from the date of sale, along with a fine for plying without registration plates, said a source.
