Maharashtr­a loses two braveheart­s

PUNE: Captain Kunal Gosavi, 28, who died in a gun battle with terrorists in Nagrota Cantonment in Kashmir, had resumed duty two days ago after spending time with his family in Pandharpur in Solapur district of Maharashtr­a.

Gosavi’s family members said Kunal had come with his wife Uma and five-year-old daughter. He returned to Kashmir on November 26, his family members said.

His parents and two brothers are settled in Pandharpur. His father Munnagiri is a social worker and director of local cooperativ­e bank.

Kunal, the youngest in the family, completed his postgradua­tion in commerce from Pandharpur and joined the army.

The family said Kunal was happy during his visit. He went to his ancestral farm and met his relatives in Pandharpur and Vakhari, a few kms away from Pandharpur.

When his family came to know about the gun battle in Nagrota Cantonment, they were anxious. By 12 noon, they got the news about his death.

Residents of Pandharpur gathered outside the Gosavis’ house family. His father said the family was proud of his son’s sacrifice. The last rites will be conducted at Vakhari village near Pandharpur.

Marathwada’s Nanded district lost Lance naik Sambhaji Yeshvant Kadam in the Nagrota attack. Kadam, 35, is survived by his wife and a daughter. Kadam hails from Janapuri village in Loha tehsil. Kadam’s last rites will be conducted in Janapuri village.
