Man from WB held for duping Dharavi resident of ₹35K

:Officials from the cyber police traced and arrested a man from West Bengal for allegedly duping a youth of Rs35,000.

The accused had promised to sell a 64 GB iphone to the victim on OLX but sent him paper balls instead in the parcel. The arrest was made on Thursday even though the FIR was registered almost a year ago.

Additional commission­er of police, crime, KMM Prasanna confirmed the developmen­t. The accused Sabhyasach­i Mistry, 27 is a resident of West Bengal and works in a private insurance company.

Mistry had put up an adver tisement on OLX offering the 64 GB iphone for Rs40,000. The vic tim Akshay Avsare, 25, a Dharav resident called him and brought the price down to Rs35,000.

Mistry sent photos of his driver’s licence, PAN card and the details of his bank account to Avsare on Whatsapp and asked him to transfer the money to his account. On April 15 Avsare transferre­d the money and received a parcel on April 18 but when he unpacked it, he found that it had paper balls instead of the phone.

Avsare then tried calling Mis try but his phone was switched off. He then rushed to cyber police station where an FIR was regis tered under section 419 (imper sonation), 420 (cheating) and 66D (Punishment for cheating by per sonation by using computer resource) of the Informatio­n Technology Act.

The police traced the account to which Avsare had transferre­d the money, tracked Mistry and arrested him on Thursday. He was brought to Mumbai on Fri day He has been remanded to
