Historic win for ice hockey team
The Indian women’s ice hockey team created history on Thursday as they registered their first ever win in international competitions.
The team showed tremendous resilience to defeat Philippines 4-3 in the Challenge Cup of Asia which is being held in Bangkok.
India took the lead in the second period and had a 1-0 advantage at the half-time mark. The match did not produce much goals in the first three quarters, but it all changed in the last period. Both teams produced brilliant attacking play as they scored 3 goals each, but it was India who emerged victorious.
This was a much needed win for a team who are practically unknown in the country’s sporting circles.
The Indian women’s ice hockey team went to the tournament at the back of a crowd-funding campaign where they received the help of 3000 donors and that money was used for their training, accommodation, airfares, visa, team jersey, and equipment.

Newly-appointed Indian youth football team coach Luis Norton de Matos wants foreigntoursforhisboys and play against stronger national sides as part of preparations for the U-17 FIFA World Cup the country is hosting in October.
“The plan is to travel to different countries for the boys to have an idea of what to expect in the World Cup.
“It will help them prepare in the best possible fashion. As part of the preparation, we need to play stronger teams. There is no point winning against weaker teams and winning comfortably,” said de Matos.
