BMC corporators need two more months to study DP

- HT Correspondent

The newly elected corporators of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), in their first general body meeting on Friday, demanded another two months to study the draft Development Plan (DP) 2034 before they could approve it.

A senior civic official said, “We will write to the state on Saturday, requesting an extension of two months.” The civic body’s request for an extension to submit the blueprint for the city’s development is its third in the past month. According to a source, the delay is causing confusion in the real estate market as several developers are juggling between the DP 1991 and the new draft that is in the public domain.

Despite this, Shiv Sena corporator and standing committee chairman, Ramesh Korgaonkar, demanded an amendment to the proposal, stating that an extension should be given as most of the corporators are unaware of the plan and will need time to study it. The corporators also demanded a detailed presentation of the DP in all 17 ward committees after they are formed, so that the ward -level plans can be evaluated.

Ravi Raja, group leader of Congress said, “Instead of two, we document.”

Manoj Kotak, a BJP group leader who supported Korgaonkar’s proposal, said, “I second the amendment and we definitely need another two months as most corporators are first-timers and if we still feel we need more time, only then will we think of another
