India bags 13 medals in Dubai para meet
Indian para athletes did the country proud by claiming 13 medals in the season-opening Fazaa International IPC International Athletics Grand Prix at the Dubai Club Stadium.
The medals included five gold, three of which were won by Sundar Singh Gurjar. He added a third gold medal in the shot put event T 44- 46 category with a throw of 13.36 metres. He had earlier won gold in javelin and discus throw in his category.
The women also added to the medals tally with a gold-silver finish in the women’s wheelchair shot put F-55 category. Karamjyoti claimed gold with 5.76m followed by Shatabdti Awasthi a mere 5cms behind.
VANI KAPOOR WINS SECOND TITLE
Vani Kapoor carded threeover 74 on the final day to claim her second title of the season in the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour. Gaurika Bishnoi and Amandeep Drall were tied second with identical scores of 225 after 54 holes. Vani had an uneasy start, carding a bogey on the 3rd hole and a double on the 7th. Her lone birdie on her way out came on the 6th hole.
AFI IS MEMBER OF ULTRA-RUNNING BODY
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) recently became a member of the International Association of Ultra-runners (IAU), a development which is expected to boost the profile of this ‘endurance race’.
