MAN BOOKED FOR ASSAULTING, UNDRESSING EXGIRLFRIEND

- Arvind Walmiki

A 46-year-old man was booked by the Rabodi police on Saturday for assaulting and forcibly undressing his former girlfriend, a senior public works department (PWD) official, in Thane, after she rejected his advances.

The accused, Vinod Ramesh Thorat, 46, works as an agent with the Dhule Municipal Corporation, said the police. He is married and has a son. The woman, 34, is a divorcee who has a daughter.

Police said the victim and Thorat met each other at the municipal corporation office in 2013 and started dating shortly after.

However, Thorat would verbally abuse the woman for being unable to spend time with him and for questioning him about his marital life.

“Tired of the constant arguments and abuse, the woman moved to Thane with her daughter in 2014. She started working as a senior officer at the Thane PWD. She told Thorat that she did not want to see him anymore,” said an officer from the Rabodi police station.

“Thorat went to the woman’s house early on March 21. He was angy as she had not been replying to his messages or picking up the phone when he called. When she rejected his advances, he abused her. She asked him to leave,” said the officer. “He slapped her several times, pulled her outside the house and forcibly undressed her,” added the officer.

“The woman was afraid of Thorat and so she did not approach the police sooner. She asked us to file a complaint only on April 1,” added the officer.

A team was dispatched to Dhule to nab Thorat. He was booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code.
