Woman-turned-man moves family court to annul marriage

A 31-year-old man who was born as a girl and underwent a sex change operation more than three years ago, has moved the family court seeking to annul his marriage with his 29-year-old fashion designer wife.

The two were romantically involved with each other for seven years before they decided to get married.

However, the wife, in December last year, said she was forced into tying the knot by the man and filed a case of domestic violence in court.

Soon after this, the man filed a petition in January asking the court to nullify the marriage as it had not been consummated.

The husband’s lawyer Rita Bhatia said the two were in a relationship for seven years and the wife knew about the gender.

“It’s a case of a homosexual relationship going wrong. My client and she were together in the college. She wanted to get married to him and that’s why she underwent a sex change operation. Still the marriage took place two years after the operation and she was aware of all of it,” Bhatia said.

The two reportedly met at a friend’s wedding, photos of which are part of the petition. They then became close friends and later got romantically involved. They graduated together from University of Mumbai.

“Even during the course, my client had signed all the forms and details as a woman and this was all known to his wife,” Bhatia said.

Bhatia added that after the two decided to get married, they opted for a sex change operation which, they were told, restricts a sexual relationship, and they both agreed to that as the gir wished to introduce him to her parents.

Later the wife claimed that the man had persuaded her to marry him while assuring her tha everything would be norma after the operation.

While she said he would ven his “frustration at her for being physically incapable” of an intercourse, he claimed that his wife had been cheating on him with another man.
