As Eman bids adieu to city, 3 Guj kids meet Saifee docs
After documentation delays and controversies, Eman Ahmed, who was once the world’s heaviest woman, finally left the city on Thursday.
But just as the Egyptian national left the city for Burjeel Hospital, Abu Dhabi, three children from Nandawana district of Gujarat, came to Mumbai to see doctors from Saifee Hospital. The doctors are expecting four more children – two from Maharashtra and two from Gujarat – to join the trio.
Eman was checked by Dr Mutim Khan, Intensive Care Physician of Burjeel Hospital before her medical transfer. Wearing a pink hospital gown and colourful hairclips, Eman was put on a central line access and arterial line access (used to administer medication or fluids that cannot be taken orally) and a urinary catheter before she left.
“Our primary aim was Eman’s safe medical transfer,” said Dr Shajir Gaffar, CEO of VPS Healthcare, which owns Burjeel hospital, Abu Dhabi, where Eman will undergo neurological and physiological rehabilitation. Officials also said she will be kept on a strict fluid intake until she reaches Abu Dhabi and her weight will be checked before any treatment protocols. The journey to the aircraft was long for Eman with an almost two-and-a-half-hour wait to get out of Saifee Hospital after her discharge and a further onehour wait at the Mumbai airport, allegedly because of documentation delays.
