MUMBAI: Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has announced a hike in the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) by ₹1.51/kg and that of piped natural gas (PNG) by ₹0.33/ SCM, which will be effective from Saturday. This price revision will affect around nine lakh households having PNG connection­s and 5 lakh vehicles plying on CNG.

THANE: Sonu Jalan, 41, bookie who was recently arrested in IPL betting racket, was remanded in police custody for the second time on Friday. Jalan was wanted in a case registered by Kasarvadav­li Police in 2017.

THANE: Bazarpeth Police arrested a 29-year-old man for posing as a doctor and illegally running a clinic in Kalyan for the last few months. Police said the degrees and certificat­es kept inside the clinic were fake.

British embassy staffer molested at airport

MUMBAI: Sahar Police arrested a 33-year-old carpenter for allegedly hugging a British embassy staffer on Wednesday while she was waiting for a connecting flight to Hyderabad. According to Sahar Police, the woman had landed in Mumbai at 3am. She was on her way to Hyderabad and was supposed to board a flight at 1.30pm. The alleged incident took place at level 3, near domestic boarding area.

MUMBAI: Govandi police have arrested three people, including a woman, for firing twice inside a hookah parlour in Chembur on Thursday night. One of the accused, a real estate agent, allegedly shot at the complainan­t for failing to give him money following a car deal.

MUMBAI: A Dharavi tailor, 38, and his nephew, 21, allegedly drugged and gangraped their 19-year-old relative on Monday. The tailor had been sexually assaulting the woman since April, the police said. Both the accused are the woman’s brothers-in-law The tailor, who lives next door, would often drop by to leave keys at the woman’s house.

Sena corporator extortion: BSP MLA, scribe acquitted

MUMBAI: A former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA and a ‘journalist’, along with another man, were acquitted by a local court for their alleged role in trying to extort money from a former Shiv Sena corporator Bhalchandr­a Mhatre’s wife in 2008. The prosecutio­n had alleged that the accused had demanded ₹50,000 for not publishing ‘defamatory texts’ against Mhatre.
