NEW DELHI: A number of electronic voting machines malfunctioned in two places in the recent bypolls due to “excessive exposure to illumination”, the Election Commission (EC) said on Friday. The EC had formed two special teams to look into the unusually high number of voter verifiable paper audit trail machines malfunctioning in UP’S Kairana and Maharashtra’s Bhandara-gondiya on May 28. The preliminary report found two technical reasons for the malfunctioning -- failure of contrast and length sensors..
Nashikaccident victims’ funeral held at Kalyan
KALYAN: Ten people who died in a road accident on the Mumbai-agra National Highway near Nashik two days ago had their final rites conducted at a cemetery in Murbad Road , Kalyan (West) on Friday. It was attended by thousands who lived in their neighbourhood. As per the KDMC, three out of 10 people died in the accident were employed with the civic body and the rest were their family members. Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) Mayor Vinita Rane announced help for the injured by giving away one month’s worth of honorarium received by the civic body’s corporators and one day’s salary of its officers for their treatment.
‘Same gun used to kill Gauri Lankesh, scholar Kalburgi’
BENGALURU: A forensic report of the bullets recovered from the murder scene of journalist Gauri Lankesh has confirmed that the gun was the same as the one used to kill Kannada scholar MM Kalburgi, a senior member of the Special Investigation Team probing the murder confirmed. Lankesh was gunned down outside her house on September 5 in a manner that was similar to the murder of Kalburgi, who was shot at his house in 2015. The person who shot Lankesh is still at large.
