PLAYERS GOT CARRIED AWAY: CONSTANTINE

- HT Correspondent

MUMBAI: Indian coach Stephen Constantine believes India suffered a 1-2 loss at the hands of New Zealand in the final group game of the Intercontinental Cup because the players got ‘carried away’ after a couple of wins in the tournament.

India thumped Chinese Taipei 5-0 and beat Kenya 3-0 in the first two games of the four-nation tournament. Sunil Chhetri had contributed to five of those goals. “When you win two games, you maybe get carried away,” said Constantine at the postmatch press gathering on Thursday. “New Zealand had young team but were well-disciplined. We made mistakes but didn’t start as well as we do. Individual errors cost us today.”

India were overrun by New Zealand on the wings on Thursday, something that they need to work on before taking on the likes of Bahrain and United Arab Emirates in the Asian Cup.

CITY NEED MORE TITLES TO BE BEST: GUARDIOLA

MANCHESTER: Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes the Premier League champions need to build on his maiden title in charge of the club if they want to be considered among the best sides in English football history.

“We are the best? I’m not sure of that,” Guardiola said. “I’m completely with the people who say that to be considered the best team in the history of English football you have to win more. We won one Premier League (title).”
