INJURED STOKES OUT OF ENGLAND T20I SQUAD

NOTTINGHAM: England allrounder Ben Stokes was left out of the squad announced Tuesday for the upcoming Twenty20 internaton­al matches against Australia and India. The 14-man squad did contain Surrey seamer Sam Curran, who made his Test debut against Pakistan at Headingley earlier this month. England said Monday the hamstring tear Stokes suffered before that second Test against Pakistan was “progressin­g well”, and it was possible hoped he could play in the three-match Twenty20 series against India starting on July 3.

Bangladesh’s Mustafizur out of Windies tour

DHAKA: Bangladesh have left out Mustafizur Rahman from their 15-man squad for next month’s Test series against West Indies after the pacer failed to recover from an injury. The 22-year-old left-arm seamer, who has claimed 26 wickets in 10 Tests, hurt his left big toe last month during an IPL match he played for the Mumbai Indians. Mustafizur was yet to regain his fitness from the injury which also forced him to miss the recent three-match Twenty20 series against Afghanista­n, chief selector Minhajul Abedin said.

Sri Lanka and West Indies draw 2nd Test

On a day when their captain, Dinesh Chandimal, who has been charged by umpires Aleem Dar and Ian Gould with ball tampering on the second day of the match, is likely to know his fate, the tourists stayed focused on events on the field in reducing the home side to 64 for four in early afternoon after setting the West Indies a target of 296.

Dhawan, Vijay move up in ICC Test rankings

DUBAI : India openers Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay moved up the ladder in the ICC Test rankings for batsmen after their twin tons in the first innings of India’s one-off five-day game against Afghanista­n in Bengaluru last week. Dhawan’s knock of 107, before lunch on the opening day of a Test match, saw him gain 10 spots to reach a career-best 24th position while Vijay’s innings of 105 lifted him six spots to 23rd position as they helped India win.
