5 held for robbing ₹17 lakh from cash van at gunpoint
MUMBAI: Five persons were arrested on Thursday for robbing ₹16.58 lakh from a cash van at gunpoint in Mankhurd on June 13.
Investigations revealed that 13 persons had hatched the conspiracy to loot ₹1 crore from the cash van that collected cash from 29 establishments, including Mankhurd station. The suspects robbed ₹16.58 lakh but failed to escape with another bag of ₹36 lakh. The police tracked the driver of an auto, Mohamed Sagir, 40, that was seen on the road of the along with the Alto used by the accused, said Shahji Umap, deputy commissioner of police, zone 6. He led them to the others –Vijay Lohat, 38, David Laurence, 33, Jagdish Suvarna, 49, and Santosh Rajput, 30.
