Man sentenced to 10yrs in prison for shooting teen who refused proposal

THANE:A 23-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years in jail by the Thane sessions court on Wednesday for shooting a minor in March 2016 at Kalwa, after she had rejected his marriage proposal. The girl had survived with injuries on her neck.

The accused, identified as Kamlakant Mahesh Chandra Saini, is a resident of Rajasthan, was found guilty of attempt to murder.

Saini had met the teenager, then 15- year-old, in January 2016 in Rajasthan. But after coming back to her residence in Kalwa, she refused to take the relationsh­ip any further and used to avoid his phone calls.

Out of anger, Saini purchased a gun worth ₹5,000 in February 2016.

Aniket Pote, police sub inspector said, “As the girl’s family and Saini were relatives, he had gone to their place in Kalwa on March 18, 2016. Saini asked her to marry him and shot her when she refused him.

“We rushed to the spot as soon as we were informed. We caught Saini at the teenager’s house and the gun was seized immediatel­y.”
