Host’s kin arrested for poisoning food at housewarming

KHALAPUR: Five days after five people died following a meal at a house-warming function in Raigad district, the police on Friday arrested a relative of the host for poisoning the food. The police said 23-year-old Pradnya Survase poisoned the food as she wanted to kill her husband and in-laws — all of whom were at the function — because they allegedly victimised her. None of them were among the victims.

“Pradnya claims that since her marriage two years ago, she has been insulted for her dark complexion,” said Vishwajeet Kaingade, senior inspector, Khalapur station.
