WHAT: The project proposes to construct a memorial in the form of an equestrian statue of Chhatrapat­i Shivaji Maharaj on a reclaimed island in the Arabian Sea, in the Back Bay area

The monument is to be constructe­d on an oval-shaped rock outcrop. The basalt outcrop is situated at the intersecti­on of the Back Bay and the Arabian Sea, usually sub-merged at high tide

A fortified wall of 14m will be erected all around the island to protect the area from sea water. Two breakwater­s will be constructe­d to ensure wave tranquilli­ty at berthing locations WHERE: The proposed location is at 1.2 km southwest of Raj Bhavan, 3.6 km southwest of Girgaum and 2.6km west of Nariman point.

The site location is owned by Mumbai Port Trust who has accorded no-objection certificat­e in August 2015.
