POWER SUPPLY TO CHEMBUR SLUM RESTORED AFTER CM INTERVENES

MUMBAI: Four days after 10,000 residents in Siddharth Colony in Chembur stayed without electricit­y, Reliance Energy restored power supply to the slum after an “interventi­on” by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. The power supply was disconnect­ed to the slum of 3,250 consumers since June 19, 2018 for failing to pay arrears of ₹63 crore over the past ten years but had continued night time supply on humanitari­an grounds.

No VVPATS, change in venue for BPP elections

MUMBAI: With a fortnight left for the elections of a trustee to Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP), Bombay High Court on Friday ordered a court-monitored election, however, turning down the request for a change of location and a Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT). The HC said that with the elections being scheduled for July 1, the last minute request wouldn’t be made possible.

AI to suspend Mumbai to Nagpur flights operations

MUMBAI: National carrier Air India has decided to suspend its flight operations between Mumbai and Nagpur. All its Nagpur-mumbai morning and evening flights have been suspended with effect from July 12 to September 30, 2018. An airline spokespers­on confirmed the move and said that the decision was taken due poor passenger traffic in the lean season. Nagpur airport officials said passenger load usually increases drops in monsoon.

Green house net blanket for saplings at Marine Drive

MUMBAI: In order to prevent saplings along the median at Marine Drive from withering, the Brihanmumb­ai Municipal Corporatio­n has blanketed the saplings with green house nets. Since the saplings are located along the coast, the salt spray from the ocean affects the growth of saplings.
