ITALY REFUSES TO EXTRADITE AGUSTA ACCUSED GEROSA
NEW DELHI: Italy has refused to extradite Carlo Gerosa, who is an accused in the Agustawestland bribery case. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials familiar with the matter said Italy has taken a plea that since it doesn’t have any mutual legal assistance treaty with India under which Gerosa can be sent for facing trial. “We have explained to the ministry of external affairs that even in the absence of mutual legal assistance treaty, the accused can be sent to India under certain provisions of law,” said a CBI official familiar with matter.
GNLF quits hill development body positions in 8 months
SILIGURI: Barely eight months after they were given the chairmanship of Hill Area Development Committee (HADC) in the north Bengal hills, Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) chairman Mann Ghising announced on Friday that they were giving up the position. Ghising also announced to give up the position of MOS which the Mamata Banerjee government bestowed on him on May 18. Ghising is the son of the legendary hill leader and founder of GNLF, Subash Ghising, who led the first major struggle for Gorkhaland in the Darjeeling hills between 1986 and 1988.
Murdered Latvian tourist’s husband wants CBI probe
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Slain Latvian tourist Liga Skormane’s husband Andrew Jordan on Friday moved the Kerala HC seeking a CBI probe into his wife’s murder. Skormane’s decomposed body was found on a secluded beach near Kovalam in April and the police arrested two persons in connection with her rape and murder. Two fishermen found her body with severed head a month after she had disappeared.
