SON ASSAULTS, ABUSES ELDERLY FATHER, BOOKED

MUMBAI: A 68-year-old Dadar resident registered a case against his son, 32, for allegedly harassing, abusing and assaulting him since the last four years.

The complainan­t, Shabbir Kanchwala, alleged that his son, Zahir Kanchwala, forced him to transfer his property to the latter’s name and vacate the house.

Following the senior citizen’s complaint, the Shivaji Park police station booked Zahir under provisions of the Maintenanc­e and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2005, on July 11. Assistant commission­er of police Sunil Deshmukh, said legal action will be taken against the accused. According to police, Shabbir , has been residing in the Silver Beach Building at PP Jambhekar Marg in Dadar (West) for the past six decades along with his wife and family. While Zahir, his elder son, lives in the same building, Shabbir’s younger son lives abroad and his daughter is studying in Pune.

According to Shabbir, the father-son duo jointly owned a flat on the 10th floor of the building. Zahir was pressurisi­ng him to transfer the property in his name and vacate the house. He alleged his son was not providing him with food. Shabbir alleged that on June 17, Zahir came to his home and started arguing. He allegedly kicked and punched his father, said a police official. Shabbir then went to Poddar Hospital, where he was treated for injuries and later to Shivaji Park police station.earlier, too, Shabbir had approached the police twice and lodged complaints.
