11 sites banned for illegally streaming ‘Sanju’ on FB Live

MUMBAI:THE Maharashtr­a cyber cell has banned 11 websites for providing weblinks to the movie ‘Sanju’ on Facebook live. According to the police, on July 9, the producers of the movie lodged a complaint with the cyber cell, stating that the movie went viral through Facebook live.

Balsingh Rajput, superinten­dent of police, state cyber cell, said, “Most of the entertainm­ent houses face losses due to illegal streaming. They should complain to us and help in carrying out investigat­ion. We will ensure that the website is banned with immediate effect.”

With this ban, the total count of banned websites has reached around 53 websites over the last few months. Several websites were banned for providing live links to movies like ‘Padmaavat’ and ‘Baahubali’ earlier this year and last year.

A police officer from the cyber cell said, “We began to investigat­e on the complaint and found that few miscreants had used Facebook live to provide live online links to the movie. We found that more than a lakh views were registered for the movie on the link.”

“We are taking this seriously and have sent all the 11 links to Facebook officials, who have banned the websites. We will now carry out an investigat­ion to find who uploaded the links and will take action against them accordingl­y,” the officer said.

The cyber cell have also received complaints about FIFA World Cup and cricket websites been streamed illegally without proper viewing rights.

“We are in process of banning 14 websites which are streaming the football World Cup and cricket matches after receiving complaints from sports channels,” the officer said.

Cops are also working on complaints regarding songs which have been uploaded illegally.
