Sindhu in last-four at Thailand Open
BANGKOK: PV Sindhu progressed to the women’s singles semi-finals of the Thailand Open World Tour Super 500 tournament here on Friday as she knocked out Soniia Cheah in straight games .
The second seeded Indian continued her consistent form with a 21-17 21-13 win over world No 35 Soniia in a 36-minute clash.
KAMALRAJ, SILWAL IN FINAL ROUND
TAMPERE:KANGARAJ Kamalraj and Sahil Silwal made it to the finals of the men’s triple jump and javelin throw events respectively, at the IAAF World U-20 Athletics Championships on Friday.
Kamalraj cleared 15.98m in his first jump while Silwal finished fifth overall in the qualification round with an effort of 73.22m to make it to the finals.
ADITI LIES WAY BEHIND AT MARATHON CLASSIC
SYLVANIA,US:ADITI Ashok is in danger of missing the cut at the Marathon Classic after she made a forgettable start with a four-over 75 in the opening round of the tournament on the LPGA Tour.
Aditi had a nightmarish start with four bogeys in first five holes and had two more on 14th and 15th to be six-over. She had her only birdies of the day on 17th and 18th to turn in 75 to lie T-117. Meanwhile, Thai girl Thidappa Suwannapura (65) took sole lead.
ATWAL BEGINS WITH 2-UNDER 69 AT PGA
SILIVIS, US: Indian golfer Arjun Atwal made a fine recovery on the back nine to bring home a card of two-under 69 and lie tied 56th after the first round of the John Deere Classic here, on Friday.
Atwal was two-over for the front nine, before four birdies pulled him back to two-under at the TPC Deere Run here.
ELEVANIL WINS GOLD IN JUNIOR SHOOTING MEET
NEW DELHI: Young Indian shooter Elavenil Valarivan on Fridayclaimed the women’s air rifle gold medal in the 28th Meeting of Shooting Hopes junior international championship in Plzen, Czech Republic.
The 18-year-old shot 250.8 in the final to get the better of Italy’s Nicole Gabrielli (249.7) by 1.1 point. She had also topped the qualification with 628.0.
Aleksandra Szutko of Poland won the bronze with 228.2.
