OPPN TO DISCUSS MONSOON SESSION STRATEGY TODAY

NEW DELHI: Opposition parties will meet on Monday to formulate a joint strategy to corner the government on various issues during the Monsoon Session of Parliament starting July 18. Top most on the agenda will be to finalise a joint candidate for the Rajya Sabha deputy chairman’s post which fell vacant after the end of the term of P J Kurien from the Congress on July 1. Leaders from the Congress and various other parties will meet Monday evening in the office of the Leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad in Parliament House.

Prime accused in Khunti gang rape held in J’khand

JAMSHEDPUR : The prime accused in the alleged gang rape of five women in Jharkhand’s Khunti district has been arrested from a village in West Singhbhum district, a senior police officer said on Sunday. Baji Samad, a resident of Ludubeda village in Seraikelak­harswan district, was arrested on Saturday, West Singhbhum SP, Kranthi Kumar Gadidesi, said. Based on informatio­n that Samad was seen near Banasai village, a joint team was formed on Saturday, Kranthi Kumar said.

BJP, Congress workers detained after clash in TN

CHENNAI: Senior Congress leader and former Tamil Nadu chief minister K Kamaraj’s 116th birthday celebratio­ns ended in violence between the workers of the BJP and the Congress party on Sunday. Union minister Pon Radhakrish­nan garlanded a Kamaraj statue, following which BJP workers hoisted their party flags around it. The Congress workers tried to remove BJP flags, leading to a clash. Police detained the workers.
