₹1.45-crore MD haul: ‘Accused used women to peddle drug’
MUMBAI: Two accused arrested by the city crime branch on Saturday with mephedrone worth ₹1.45, allegedly used women to peddle the drug to customers across south Mumbai.
According to the investigation, three to four women and a Nigerian national were in touch with the accused, Salim Ahmed Khan, 47, who lives in Nagpada. He stored MD at his residence.
Khan confessed that he used to buy MD from Nooruddin Samsuddin Ali Shaikh, 57, for the past four years. Police then laid a trap and arrested Shaikh. They recovered three kg of MD from him.
Police is questioning the duo to find out the chain of suppliers and peddlers. “If we find drugs in the possession of the women peddlers , we will arrest them,” said deputy commissioner of police Nishar Tamboli. Shaikh is a native of Uttar Pradesh, but has been living in Nallasopara for the past few years. “We have identified the main supplier who provides MD to Shaikh. The police team has been trying to trace him,” said Tamboli.
Unit 9 of Mumbai crime branch got a tip-off about Khan visiting the Nargis Dutt area in Bandra (West) along with the drugs. “A trap was laid and Khan was nabbed with 1.5kg of MD, worth ₹15 lakh. During interrogation, he revealed that Shaikh supplied the drugs to him,” the official said. A team then conducted a search at Khan’s residence and recovered an additional 5.5kg of MD,” added official. Khan also confessed he planned to meet Shaikh on Saturday, in Nagpada, to discuss the deal , he said.
