PILOT KILLED IN MIG21 CRASH IN HIMACHAL

DHARAMSHAL­A: A MIG-21 fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, killing the pilot, the IAF said. The aircraft had taken off from the Pathankot air base on a routing sortie at 12.20pm and crashed around 1.20pm in Patta Jattian village in Jawali, around 70km from Dharamshal­a. The IAF has ordered a court of inquiry into the incident. ››P7

Russian ‘gangraped’ in Tamil Nadu, six detained

CHENNAI: Police in Chennai have detained six men for allegedly gang-raping a 21-year-old woman from Russia in the Tiruvannam­alai town on Monday. The developmen­t comes a day after 17 men were arrested for allegedly gang-raping an 11-year-old in the state capital. The Russian woman had come to Tiruvannam­alai to learn meditation. ››P7

BMC to set up parking body to enforce court order

MUMBAI: A day after the Bombay HC asked BMC and police to act against illegally-parked vehicles, the civic body said citizens could use www.mcgm.gov.in, and toll-free helpline number (1916) to report vehicles flouting rules. The BMC is planning to set up a special parking authority to regulate this issue.

Sugarcane prices hiked by ₹20 to ₹275 per quintal

NEW DELHI: The Cabinet hiked the minimum price at which sugar mills buy cane from farmers by ₹20 a quintal to ₹275 a quintal

(100 kgs). Known as “fair and remunerati­ve price” or FRP, the new price will take effect in the next sugar season starting Oct, Union minister for IT and law, Ravi Shankar Prasad has said. ››P7
