FOUR ACCUSED IN 1998 ASSAULT CASE ACQUITTED

MUMBAI : Four men, accused in an assault case in 1998, were acquitted by a local Borivli court on Wednesday, on the grounds that only the victim’s family members had been examined. The victim was allegedly assaulted by the accused after he filed a complaint against them following a property dispute. The court deemed the victim’s wife and daughter were not independen­t witnesses. Others who witnessed the assault were not examined.

Cyber fraudster cheats Bhandup resident of ₹2L

MUMBAI : A first informatio­n report has been registered against a cybercrimi­nal who allegedly cheated a 40-year-old Bhandup resident of ₹2.08 lakh. In March, the complainan­t received a call from the accused, who posed as a bank official and asked for the complainan­t’s ATM PIN, 16-digit card number and CVV number.

Ticket agent booked for duping woman of ₹1.3 lakh

MUMBAI: The Shivaji Park police have registered a case against a travel agent for allegedly cheating a 57-year-old Dadar resident of ₹1.30 lakh. The complainan­t, Utkarsha Ramesh Nadkarni, got in touch with the accused through a mobile applicatio­n while looking for travel agents to fly to the United States.

Two who stole 21 cows held

MUMBAI: The Vangaon police arrested two people for stealing 16 cows and five calves from a moving tempo in Vasai on Tuesday. The vehicle was on its way to the slaughterh­ouse, said police.

Eight held for accepting bribe in two separate raids

KOLHAPUR : The ACB on Wednesday arrested deputy superinten­dent of Central Reserve Police force Manohar Gavali, inspector Madhukar Sakat, sub-inspector Ramesh Shirguppe, clerk Rajkumar Jadhav and two employees Ananda Patil and Pravin Koli for accepting ₹40,000 bribe from 23 employees to get their leaves sanctioned. In a second raid on Tuesday, education officer Pratibha Surve and her assistant Nitin Rabade were caught accepting a bribe of ₹6,000 in exchange for documents.
