- Pranab Jyoti Bhuyan

NAVI MUMBAI: A 49-year-old man died after being hit by a car on the Sion-panvel highway near Kharghar, on Friday.

The victim, Musaddique Kadri, a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) doctor, had come to Kharghar to meet his relatives.

He alighted from a bus near Hiranandani flyover and was walking along the road, when a car coming from the Panvel side hit him from behind.

The accused Bhushan Chaudhary, 23, who is an MBA student fled the spot. “Kadri suffered injuries and was rushed to the hospital by passersby. However, he was declared dead on arrival,” said Mahendra Wagh, assistant police inspector of Kharghar police station.

Wagh said Chaudhary sped away fearing arrest. “However, the number plate of his car broke into pieces at the accident spot. We collected them and recovered the registration number. We later identified the owner with the help of RTO and arrested him,” Wagh said. “Chaudhary said Kadri was wearing a black shirt and black pants. Since it was raining and it was dark, he could not see Kadri and ended up hitting him. Further investigation is on,” Wagh said. The police booked Chaudhary under relevant sections of the IPC and sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
