- Priyanka Dhomse

THANE:A 28-year-old police sub-inspector (PSI) tried to commit suicide on Friday by consuming phenyl in her house at Vartak Nagar. PSI Sharda Deshmukh was investigating the murder case of Prachi Zade – a 20-year-old Thane resident – who was stabbed to death, allegedly by a 25-year-old stalker, Akash Pawar, on August 4, off the Eastern Express highway in Thane.

Police sources said that Deshmukh was under a lot of pressure during the investigation of the case.

A police officer from Kapurbawdi police station, where Deshmukh had been posted for the past two years, said, “On one of these days, Deshmukh had an argument with senior police inspector VG Darekar, regarding the investigation of the Prachi Zade murder case. Upset over the altercation, on Friday she tried to commit suicide.”

Deshmukh is undergoing treatment in a private hospital at Vartak Nagar and her condition is said to be stable.

Following the incident, the commissioner decided to post Darekar to the control room.

“Darekar will remain in the control room of the Thane police department until the inquiry against him is completed,” said a press note issued by the police.

A police officer from Thane police department said, “Thane commissioner has led the order to the additional commissioner of zone-5 of Wagle Estate, Thane, to carry an inquiry against Darekar.”
