Four Deonar police station personnel attacked in Ajmer

MUMBAI: The Gandhinaga­r police in Ajmer have registered a case against 70 to 80 people, after a team of four personnel from Deonar police station were assaulted by villagers in Ajmer district on Sunday afternoon around 12:15pm.

The team of police personnel had gone there to arrest an accused in a theft case.

According to the police, the complainan­t, Fauzu Mohammed Khan, 36, a goat trader from Rajasthan, and his friend Mohammed Saeed Qureshi registered a case of theft on August 20 .

Khan alleged that his pocket was cut and ₹7 lakh was stolen, while Qureshi was robbed of ₹1.10 lakh. The cash was from the sale of goat he had during the Bakri eid season.

The Deonar police started the investigat­ion and with the help of CCTV footage, witnesses and technical evidence, found that the accused was from Ajmer district in Rajasthan.

To arrest the accused, a team of four personnel from Deonar police station including Pravin Suryavansh­i, police sub-inspector along with three constable M Gaikwad, A Pote and P Hake, left for Ajmer. The team of Deonar police took help of Gandhinaga­r police station and raided the Kuchil village in the jurisdicti­on of Gandhinaga­r police station in Ajmer district.

“A mob of around 70 to 80 people started protesting the arrest and police personnel entering the village. They attacked them forcing them to leave the village premises,” said police sources.

Pote and Hake were injured in the attacked. The police personnel of Gandhinaga­r police station too were injured in the incident.

A case was registered at Gandhi Nagar police station of Ajmer District under Section 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian penal code (IPC).

The police claimed that the Kunchil village is notorious and such attacks are common there.
