25YEAROLD GANGRAPED IN PALGHAR DISTRICT

THANE: A 25-year-old woman from Nallasopar­a in Palghar district was allegedly raped by two men over the last 45 days, the police said on Monday. The accused, identified as Vibas Kar and his friend Sajid live in neighbourh­ood of the woman. Kar allegedly raped the woman on June 17 when her husband and children were away. He later roped in Sajid and the duo raped her on several occasions between June 17 and August 30. The woman confided in her husband who lodged an FIR with the Valiv police. Kar and Sajid have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Cuffe Parade trader duped of ₹4.92L at APMC

NAVI MUMBAI: The APMC police have registered a case after a 36-year-old trader was cheated of ₹4.92 lakh by another group of traders on Sunday. According to the police, Ajit Ashok Sharma, a trader from Cuffe Parade in Mumbai had purchased a consignmen­t of pomegranat­e in the APMC market last week and had given it to group of traders to sell those at different markets of the country. The traders secretly took away the consignmen­t without paying him.

Palghar resort raided, 64 arrested for gambling

THANE: Sixty-four persons were arrested for allegedly gambling at a resort in Palghar district. Cash, mobiles phones and vehicles with a cumulative worth of ₹1.63 crore were seized, police said on Monday. Gaurav Singh, superinten­dent of police said the arrested were from Gujarat, Mumbai, Thane and Palghar. Rirish Shetty and Sanmit Shetty who operated the gambling network, and the resort owner Harish Thakur were also arrested.

Farmer’s PIL against illegal land use by panchayat

KOLHAPUR : A farmer Sharad Jambhale of Balinga in Kolhapur has rushed to Bombay high court with public interest litigation (PIL) against illegal use of village land for 600 plots for residentia­l use thereby violating rules regarding Gairan ( land preserved for cows ).
