Naushad scalps six wickets against DPC

MUMBAI: Young Mohemmedan’s Naushad Khan claimed six wickets in their win over Dadar Parsee Colony SC on the basis of their first innings’ lead in a ‘B’ Division contest of the Kanga League here on Sunday.

Two other teams to post wins on the basis of the first-innings lead were Bhatnagar and Regal Cricket Club. drew Parsee Gymkhana 43/2.

Parel 139 (Gaurav Chavan 47, Atharva Ankolekar 30, Virat Mishra 6/41) drew with Sainath.

Mumbai Police Gymkhana 185/4D

(Sunil Patil 51, Shahid Shaikh 54*; Dhanit Raut 3/42) drew PDTSA 102/6 (Tejal Gawad 39*).

CHILDREN’S ACADEMY EMERGE CHAMPIONS

Children’s Academy, Malad emerged champions defeating Combined Schools 2-1 in the final of the Inter-schools Champions League Hockey Tournament organised by the St Peter’s Youth Centre at the St Stanislaus ground, Bandra.

ARTHUR PEREIRA PASSES AWAY

Former Maharashtr­a football player Arthur Pereira died in Mumbai on Monday. He was 70 and had battled cancer for the past one year, sources said. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Pereira played for several clubs in the city, including the well-known Orkay Mills. He toured Russia as a striker with the Indian team in 1971.
