JUBA: At least 19 people died in
South Sudan on Sunday when a small aircraft carrying passengers from capital Juba to the city of Yirol crashed. There were 22 people on board the flight that departed Juba International Airport, said state information minister Taban Abel. “The number [of dead] has reached 19,” he told Reuters, adding that a Ugandan and Ethiopian national were among the victims. ››P12

NEW DELHI: “Is this a kind of joke?” — the SC asked after a case, which involves a former minister of Jharkhand and his MLA wife, saw a lower court judge in Hazaribagh putting the accused on trial by pronouncing the order framing charges against them through a ‘Whatsapp’ call. “We are here on the way of trial being conducted through Whatsapp. This can not be done. What kind of a trial is this?” the SC said later. ››P7
IPS officer posted in Kanpur dies after battling for life for four days, suicide suspected
KANPUR: A 30-year old IPS officer who was said to have consumed poison died on Sunday at a nursing home in Kanpur after battling for life for four days. Surendra Kumar Das, an officer of the 2014 batch, was posted as superintendent of police (east) in Kanpur. A “suicide” note recovered from the scene of the incident mentioned “family issues” as the reason behind the extreme step.

Nuns accuse Kerala police chief of delaying rape probe
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A day after five nuns of the Missionaries of Jesus, a congregation in Kottayam district, demonstrated outside top cop’s office claiming delay in justice to their colleague allegedly raped by a bishop, protests continued to swell in Kerala. The nuns from the congregation’s convent in Kuravilangad accused the Kerala police chief of trying to sabotage and delay the probe.
