Soldier among 3 accused in Rewari gangrape case
HISAR :Haryana police launched a hunt for three men, among them an army personnel, for the alleged gangrape of 20-year-old woman last week, police said on Saturday.
Haryana director general of police (DGP) BS Sandhu said a police team had been sent to Rajasthan, where the army man who believed to be the main accused is posted.
“The other two accused will also be arrested soon,” he said.
The director general of police said senior officials will also investigate if there was any negligence on part of the police in responding to the case.
The police on Saturday also released photographs and names of the three accused —Pankaj, Manish and Nishu.
In her complaint, the woman said Pankaj and Manish drugged her and took her near a well in a car where she recognised Nishu after gaining consciousness.
She was allegedly drugged again and gangraped, she said.
“Medical reports confirm rape but how many committed the crime is a matter of investigation. Samples have been sent to the forensic lab,” said Nuh superintendent of police (SP) Nazneen Bhasin, who is leading a special investigation team.
A top army officer said the force did not shelter criminals and it would facilitate the arrest of the accused.
“If an army personnel is involved in the crime we will facilitate that the person is caught and booked for rape. We do not shelter criminals,” Lt Gen Cherish Mathson, general officer commanding-in-chief, south western command said, according to news agency ANI.
The Haryana police have also announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information about the three accused who are absconding.
