MUMBAI: Under fire for his comments that rise in petrol and diesel prices doesn’t bother him because he is a minister, Ramdas Athawale on Sunday regretted his remarks. Athawale said he had no intention of hurting the sentiments of the common man. In a statement issued in Mumbai, Athawale, Union minister of state for social justice and a BJP ally, said he understand­s that people are getting affected by the rising fuel prices.

Dy collector’s staff held while taking ₹33K bribe

KOLHAPUR: Prabhakar Bandal, a bond or copy writer, at deputy collector’s office in Islampur, Sangli, was arrested while accepting a bribe of ₹33,000. Bandal was taking money for securing permission for land purchase from the deputy collector or Prant officer in the office.

3 Sangli doctors booked for illegal abortions

KOLHAPUR : Dr Rupalli Chaugale, Dr Vijaymukar Chaugale and Dr Swanil Jamdage were booked by municipal health authoritie­s who raided their hospital in Sangli city on Saturday. The officials said the trio performed abortions illegally. During the raid, the officials also seized expired medicines and kits used for abortions .

3 brothers die after heavy vehicle hits their bike

KOLHAPUR: Amol Nale, 22, Akshay Nale, 23, and Rahul Nale 23, who were on their way to the gym, died on the spot after the twowheeler they were travelling on was hit by a heavy vehicle. The accident took place at Vidani village, Satara, on Saturday morning.
