Parents write to govt about power cuts in pvt school

- Ankita Bhatkhande

MUMBAI: Several parents of students of Guardian High School in Dombivli have recently written to the state education department complaining about the frequent power cuts in the school.

The parents said in their complaint that despite several requests, the school is unable to address the issue of frequent power cuts thus making students suffer in the heat sometimes for the entire day.

“Over the last few months, power outage in the school has become a common thing. While we know that this is due to load shedding in the area, the school should arrange for a solid power back up. In the absence of one, our children are made to sit in the scorching heat for the entire day,” said the parent of a Class 4 student from the school on the condition of anonymity.

Parents also said that the school, on many occasions, does not have drinking water in the premises.

“Our children carry water bottles but that is not always enough. They are unable to refill it because there is no drinking water in the school most of the times. We pay close to ₹ 70,000 as fees every year and these are some basic facilities that children should get,” said another parent.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the school administration denied the allegations and said that it was just a minor issue.

“Power cuts are not frequent in the school. Last week due to a technical issue in the area, there was no power for a brief period. We have a power backup but that does not last beyond a few hours. We have written to the electricity board and are trying to come up with a solution,” the spokesperson said.
