CR EYES ₹11 CR FROM DIGITAL ADS AT CSMT
MUMBAI: Tapping into newer possibilities for generating revenue, the Central Railway (CR) is eyeing ₹11 crore from advertisements at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), one of the largest stations in the city.
The decision comes after Union railway minister Piyush Goyal recently directed senior railway officials to tap into the potential of non-fare box earnings from Mumbai stations. CR has already invited bids for the advertisement rights. Officials of CR’S commercial department said the main focus is on digital advertising as it catches passenger attention easily.
Of the ₹11 crore which CR aims to earn, it has estimated the highest amount — ₹4.30 crore — will come from CSMT’S suburban station premise. It will be followed by ₹4.09 crore from mainline station premise and ₹2.66 crores from the taxi stand area. Another senior official said in the entire Mumbai division, CR wants to double its earnings from non-fare box earnings annually — from ₹60 crore to at least ₹85-90 crore.
