RUPEE AT 12WEEK HIGH, GAINS 220P IN 7 SESSIONS

MUMBAI: The rupee rose to its highest in almost 12 weeks on Thursday as global oil prices eased further. The rupee strengthen­ed past the psychologi­cal 71-to-thedollar mark, climbing to as much as 70.9175, the highest since September 3 and compared to its previous close of 71.46 on Tuesday. This is the seventh straight session of gains for the domestic unit amid the US dollar weakening against some currencies overseas. In the last seven trading sessions, the rupee has gained a healthy 220 paise. REUTERS

‘Greenhouse gas levels in atmosphere hit record high’

GENEVA: The amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere hit a new record in 2017 with emissions showing no sign of slowing, the UN World Meteorolog­ical Organizati­on (WMO) said on Thursday. The annual Greenhouse Gas Bulletin dashed hopes for slowdown in emissions of CO2 — the by-product of burning fossil fuels that scientists say is the main cause of the greenhouse effect causing global warming.

India, Pak to build corridor for Sikhs to visit shrine

NEW DELHI: India and Pakistan said on Thursday they will build a corridor on their respective sides to let Sikh pilgrims visit the iconic Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur on the banks of river Ravi in Pakistan. The corridor on India’s side will be built as an “integrated developmen­t project”. The Centre called on its Pakistani counterpar­t to develop a similar corridor on its territory. ››P15
