PIL SEEKING STAY ON KEDARNATH RELEASE QUASHED
MUMBAI: The Bombay high court has dismissed a PIL seeking a stay on the release of the film Kedarnath, after the Central Board of Film Certification informed the court that it had certified the film after examining it from all aspects. The division bench of chief justice Naresh Patil and justice Makarand Karnik was hearing a petition filed alleging that the film desecrated Kedar Dham, one of the four religious places that were sacred to the Hindus, by depicting a love story within the temple.
Cop among three arrested for taking ₹1 lakh bribe
THANE: The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested three people, including a police officer, for allegedly taking a bribe of ₹1 lakh from a jeweller. Assistant police inspector Sunil Wagh, 34, had, through another person, allegedly made a demand of ₹10 lakh from the jeweller to save him from action in a criminal case, said Seema Adnaik, inspector, Thane ACB.
House partially collapses in Chunnabhatti; teen injured
MUMBAI: A 16-year-old girl was injured when a part of a house collapsed in Chunnabhatti on Thursday evening. According to the civic disaster management department, the injured, Ekra Khan, was rushed to Sion hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
Man, duped of ₹45K, nabs fraudster with brother’s aid
MUMBAI: A 38-year-old man, who fell prey to vishing and lost ₹45,000, got the alleged fraudster recently arrested with the help of his brother. In October, Sharif Hussain, the victim, had got a call from a woman who offered him a loan of ₹10 lakh at a cost of ₹1 lakh as fixed deposit. Hussain had agreed to so. In November, a man had called Hussain asked for his bank details as part of the verification process. After Hussain gave the man his bank details, ₹45,000 was debited from his account.
Taxi, auto drivers to protest against online CNG booking
MUMBAI: Taxi and autorickshaw drivers will hold a demonstration on December 13 against the online booking of CNG in autorickshaws and taxis. The protest will be held in front of the Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) office located in BKC. The Mumbai Taximen’s union and Bombay Autorickshawmen’s union have stated that many of taxi and autorickshaw drivers do not have smart phones and do not know how to use them as well.
Fadnavis stays grabbing of heritage land in Kolhapur
KOLHAPUR: In response to appeal by Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has stayed the move of the state urban development department to let the private builder grab land of the heritage building of Shalini Cinetone in Kolhapur. The builder, with the alleged help of officials from the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation, was able to acquire the whole plot preserved for the heritage building.
