TAMIM RETURNS FROM INJURY WITH CENTURY VS WI IN WARMUP

NEW DELHI: Tamim Iqbal marked his return from injury with a century for BCB XI as they beat West Indies by 51 runs (DLS) in a practice match at Savar on Thursday. Asked to bat, the visitors rode on half-centuries from opener Shai Hope (81) and Roston Chase (65*) to post 331/8 in 50 overs. In reply, Tamim, who had fractured his left wrist during the Asia Cup in September, combined with No 3 batsman Soumya Sarkar, adding 114 runs for the second wicket. Tamim hit 13 fours and four sixes in his 73-ball 107 while Sarkar remained unbeaten on 103 off 83 deliveries as BCB XI won with rain stopping play. West Indies and Bangladesh play a three-match ODI series from Dec 9.

Saurashtra captain Jaydev Shah to retire from cricket

MUMBAI: Saurashtra captain Jaydev Shah will retire from all forms of cricket after their Ranji match against Karnataka. The 35-year-old, who is the son of former BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah, captained his team in 111 matches, which is the highest in Ranji Trophy. One of the defining moments in his career came during the 2007-08 Ranji Trophy when the left-hand batsman led the side to its maiden Ranji title. As a reward, Shah was handed captaincy of India A during their short tour to Israel in 2008. Under Shah, Saurashtra made the final in two seasons of Ranji Trophy --2012-13 and 2015-16. Shah, who made his first-class debut in 2002-03, has played 119 matches, scoring 5253 runs at an average of 29.67.
