Chong Wei eyes return to badminton
KUALALUMPUR:MALAYSIA’S former world No 1 Lee Chong Wei could return to the badminton training court within a fortnight after fighting back from nose cancer, an official told AFP on Thursday.
The three-time Olympic silver medallist, who has spent nearly five months on the sidelines, is already doing light fitness work after receiving a clean bill of health from doctors, Malaysia’s badminton chief said.
“He sounded cheerful,” said Norza Zakaria, president of the Badminton Association of Malaysia, after speaking to Lee on the phone. “Yes I think so,” he added, when asked to confirm reports that Lee would resume playing in training in two weeks.
USA GYMNASTICS FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY
LOS ANGELES: USA Gymnastics said on Wednesday it had filed for bankruptcy protection as the embattled governing body continues to grapple with the aftermath of the Larry Nassar abuse scandal.
In a statement on the organisation’s website, USA Gymnastics said it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Indiana in order to settle lawsuits brought by Nassar’s victims.
“This filing will enable USA Gymnastics to continue to support its athletes, to fully operate and meet its responsibilities to the entire membership and to expeditiously resolve the claims made by the survivors of sexual abuse perpetrated by Larry Nassar,” the organisation said in a statement.
