MUMBAI: A 40-year-old man who was a close aide of gangster DK Rao was found dead at his SionKoliwada residence on Friday.

The Wadala TT police found that Marimuthu Periyaswami Devendra alias TP Raja’s throat was slit with a sharp object and suspect he died owing to blood loss. A murder case has been registered. Cops suspect the murder was a result of some rivalry.

Raja, who has 17 cases against him across Mumbai, lived alone at the rented flat in a Mhada colony in Sion-koliwada. “During primary investigation, we found two persons entered his home between 3-3.30pm and slit his throat. The accused and victim probably had a scuffle. They fled the spot after latching the door. Few locals had seen the accused with blood stains on their clothes,” said an officer.

Raja was allegedly alive for a while after the attack and tried to call out for help. “In the building’s CCTV footage, we found one of the accused trying to start a bike. As it did not start, the accused left it and ran,” said another officer. Raja had been working for a builder under whom a major redevelopment project was going on. “He had vacated more than 500 houses by threatening people. There were two to three groups helping the builder and one of them could be involved in the murder,” said an officer. FAISAL TANDEL
