Murder convict who had jumped parole in 2013 held
THANE: The Thane crime branch on Thursday arrested a 52-yearold man from Uttar Pradesh who was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder in 1994 and had been absconding since 2013. The accused, Ashok Kumar Upendra Singh, was one of the three arrested in the case for killing his relative over a property dispute in Vartak Nagar in 1994. In 1997, the three were convicted for the crime and sentenced to life imprisonment.
In 2013, Singh was given parole for three months. During this period, he fled and had been in hiding since.
Recently, he was traced to Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, based on a tip off. A team led by senior police inspector Nitin Thakar travelled to the location and nabbed him. “Singh has been arrested. After investigation, he will be handed over to Nashik Jail authorities,” said a police official.
