GEOLOGISTS TO VISIT DAHANU, STUDY TREMORS
DAHANU: Geologists from the National Centre for Seismology, New Delhi, which operates under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, as well as from the Regional Meteorological Department (RMD), Colaba, will visit the villages in Dahanu, Palghar district, to study the seismic tremors experienced in the region since the past few months.
“The geologists would be visiting Dahanu along with the officials of the Palghar Disaster Management team to assess the damages,” said Rahul Sarang, tehsildar, Dahanu. The geologists, who will visit from December 11 to 13, will record and assess future seismic tremors, said Sarang.
Sumit Patil, a resident of Dhundalwadi village, Dahanu, said the mild quakes have caused cracks in their homes. “We are scared, as we had utensils and other things had tumbled down from the makeshift wooden racks.” Dahanu and Talasari villages have been experiencing tremors for three months.
When asked if any compensation would be paid to those whose homes have been damaged, Sarang said the government can pay compensation to houses and property which faced a minimum 15% damages, as per a 2015 Government Resolution.
