After record low, temperatures rise marginally
NIGHT TEMPERATURE WAS 16 ° C, 2.3° C BELOW NORMAL, AS COMPARED TO 15° C ON THURSDAY — THE CITY’S COLDEST DECEMBER DAY IN THREE YEARS
MUMBAI: A day after the city recorded its coldest December day in three years, day and night temperatures increased marginally on Friday.
The Santacruz weather station recorded the night temperature of 16 degrees Celsius, 2.3 degree Celsius below normal, as compared to 15 degrees Celsius on Thursday, which was the lowest minimum temperature this season. The day temperature in the suburbs was 32.8 degrees Celsius, 0.6 degree Celsius above normal.
Colaba recorded a night temperature a degree Celsius below normal at 19.8 degrees Celsius, which was a drop from 20.8 degrees Celsius recorded on Thursday.
The day temperature in south Mumbai was 33.2 degrees Celsius, 1.3 degree Celsius above normal.
In interior Maharashtra, Ahmednagar recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 7 degrees Celsius, Nashik and Jalgaon followed at 8 and 9 degrees Celsius respectively.
The weather bureau said temperatures are likely to fluctuate between 15 and 18 degrees Celsius over the weekend and next week.
“The wind pattern is switching between northerly (cold) winds to northeasterly (comparatively warmer), which is leading to temperature fluctuation,” said Bishwambhar Singh, director, Regional Meteorological Centre, India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Pollution levels were in the ‘moderate’ category as the air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 145 and is expected to be 153 on Saturday.
A clear sky has been predicted for Saturday with day and night temperatures expected of 32 and 17 degrees Celsius.
