Bangladeshi man arrested for 23-yr illegal stay in Goregaon
MUMBAI: A Bangladeshi man who has been working as a driver has allegedly been staying illegally in India for 23 years was arrested on Friday after he was caught trying to obtain an Indian passport based on forged documents.
According to Goregaon police, the accused, identified as 30-year-old Mohammed Raju Mohammed Anjur Khan, had already obtained an Aadhaar card and PAN card using his forged documents.
Khan, a resident of Prem Nagar slum in Goregaon (West), had recently applied for a passport and his credentials were sent to the local police for verification.
The police, finding discrepancies
in his birth certificate, detained Khan for further questioning. He confessed that he had forged it.
Khan after obtaining his PAN card, used it to obtain his Aadhaar card, according to a police officer. As per his confession, he claimed that he obtained a forged birth certificate attested by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Police are currently probing whether
the BMC issued it or the whole document was forged.
Police also found that Khan got married in India, and had left his wife back home in Bangladesh. He was also allegedly in touch with many people from his country. Police recovered nine chopping knives from him. Khan has been booked under the Indian Passport (Foreigners) Act and under the Indian Penal Code for forgery.
